Braque

Solo respetando la visión completa de su evolución, como ocurre en la presente muestra, se comprende la coherencia, hondura y pasión, de un artista que mantuvo una alta calidad desde el principio hasta el final de su trayectoria, desde sus elegantes “canéforas” hasta su posterior inmersión en las naturalezas muertas y sus postreras “siluetas de pájaro en vuelo”. Braque utilizó en sus obras una muy personal gama cromática en tonos sordos y apagados de calidad terrosa que exaltaban la textura, mediante la cual consiguió un punto de intensidad escalofriante entre lo terrenal y lo místico.
english version The exhibition devoted to Braque in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is a major cultural event, providing an outstanding opportunity (given Braques scant representation in Spanish collections) to appreciate the work of the co-creator along with Picasso of Cubism, the key early 20th-century avant-garde movement, but more importantly, Braques importance in his own right as one of the best artists of the last century.
It is only through a complete overview, as the present exhibition offers, that Braque can be seen in all his coherence, depth and passion, as an artist who maintained the highest quality in his oeuvre from the outset to the end of his career, from his elegant canephoras to his later focus on the still life and his late Silhouettes of birds in flight. In his painting Braque used a unique palette of earthy, subdued tones which delight in texture, in this way achieving a shuddering point of intensity where the earthly and the mystical meet.
